Los Gatos High School is proud to announce Lisa Mitchell as the new Head Coach of the Girls Varsity Soccer Team. A 1995 LGHS graduate, decorated multi-sport athlete, and member of the LGHS Athletic Hall of Fame, Coach Mitchell brings a championship pedigree, international experience, and a deep-rooted connection to the Los Gatos community.
Mitchell, formerly known as Lisa Nanez, is a standout example of excellence both on and off the field. Her soccer journey spans from leading the Wildcats as a record-setting high school player, to staring at Santa Clara University where she captained the Broncos and led them to three NCAA Final Four appearances, to competing at the highest levels with the San Jose CyberRays and the Mexican National Team—representing Mexico at the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup and being selected for the 2004 Olympic squad.
After an accomplished playing career, Mitchell transitioned into education and coaching, where she’s spent nearly two decades inspiring young athletes. Since 2005, she has served as a Physical Education teacher at Fisher Middle School, fostering a love of fitness, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles in her students. She also served as Fisher's Athletic Director for 12 years, overseeing the development of middle school sports programs and nurturing the next generation of student-athletes.
Mitchell’s coaching background includes head coaching experience with Los Gatos United and various local school teams. Her approach emphasizes holistic player development—technically, tactically, physically, and mentally—while also prioritizing strong personal relationships and team culture.
"I am extremely honored to be named the Girls Varsity Head Soccer Coach" said Mitchell. "As a proud LGHS alum, I’m excited to return to a program that has meant so much to me throughout my life. This community helped shape who I am and I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back. I am committed to building a competitive, positive, and supportive environment where every player can grow, thrive, and carry the lessons they learn into all aspects of their lives. My goal is to help develop student-athletes who succeed both on and off the field.
As she steps into the head coaching position, Mitchell will lead the Wildcats with a clear vision: building a championship-winning culture, guiding athletes toward collegiate opportunities, and instilling values of hard work, character, and team unity.
With her deep ties to the community, elite playing background, and passion for youth development, Lisa Mitchell is uniquely positioned to elevate the Los Gatos Girls Soccer program to new heights.
