Junior catcher Haley Betti capped Los Gatos' late-inning comeback 3-2 win over visiting Sobrato with a walk-off base hit to center field Thursday evening.
The Wildcats scored in the bottom of the first inning on a single by Olivia Sickels, a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Alyshia LaPlante, and an RBI single by senior captain Grace Tucker.
But that would be it for the Cats until the bottom of the sixth inning. Trailing 2-1, Betti reached on an infield error, and junior Danica DeSantis lifted a high pop-up in front of the plate that the catcher could not handle, with the ball spinning back out of play but contacting the catcher, making it a fair ball. Meredith Harris ran for Betti at second.
Cate Zeman then walked to load the bases, bring up senior Kylynne Cook. Cook launched a long fly ball to center field for a sacrifice fly to tie the game, but DeSantis was thrown out at third base on the play.
Junior Ava Norquist came into pitch for the Cats in the fourth inning, pitching four innings and allowing one hit with nine strikeouts. Sobrato had a runner on second with one out when Norquist recorded her final strikeout on a change up, but the ball bounced away from Betti. Betti threw out the runner at first base, and Sobrato baserunner on second tried to score on the play, but DeSantis' return throw nailed her at the plate to end the inning.
Tucker led off the bottom of the seventh with a sharp single to right field. Norquist walked, and Tessa Lilienstein flied out to center field. Up stepped Betti, who quickly ended the game driving the first pitch up the middle for the game winner.
